What is Lip Blushing? Everything You Need to Know

Lip blushing is a form of semi-permanent makeup, taking the SPMU world by storm right now!

Lip blushing is in the same line of treatment as the ever-popular microblading – taking your natural features and accentuating them for 24/7 primed and defined lips. If you want to accentuate your lips, give a fuller effect without the injections of lip filler, this is the treatment for you.

Even if your lips are already plump, loss of colour and definition can occur, but thanks to lip blush, you are able to bring colour and life back to your lips with this treatment.

What is Lip Blushing?

Lip blushing uses a specially designed tattoo machine with a lower frequency than your regular tattoo machine, allowing us to create a variety of results using our array of different techniques to gently deposit colour through your lips.

This treatment is much more natural than the old school version of ‘lip tattooing’, creating a blended, natural result. It can bring colour back to lifeless lips, build definition throughout the lip line, or correct unevenness in the lips – bringing symmetry whilst minimising the appearance of fine lines, creating a natural, youthful look.

This treatment is suited to anyone over the age of 18 looking to add colour to their lips and is especially a great treatment for women who have lost pigment through ageing.

Are There Different Lip Blush Colours?

Your artist will have a variety of pigments in their collection, and at the consultation will be able to go through these with you and advise on which colour is best suited to your skin tone and lifestyle.

It is encouraged that you bring your favourite lip colour to your appointment to help your artist understand which colour and tone you prefer.

Lip blushing is about enhancing your natural lip colour so it would always advise going close to your natural lip colour to achieve a natural look, however, bolder colours can be chosen and can produce great results. Bare in mind, though, that colour can intensify over time and also be added to at touch up appointments.

What is the Lip Blush Procedure?

The lip blush treatment starts with a thorough consultation. This will allow you to ask any questions about the treatment, aftercare, and calm any anxieties you may have.

Your artist will talk through the different pigments they have, and use their expert opinion to best advise you on which colour is best suited to you.

Your artist will then measure your lips and begin to pre-draw, allowing you to see how the shape of your lips will be after the treatment.

The tattooing will not commence until you, the client, is happy with the shape drawn. The tattooing itself can last from 45 minutes to 2 hours.

How Long Do the Results Last?

Depending on the client’s lifestyle and aftercare, lip blushing can last from 1-3 years.

There are many factors that can affect the longevity of the pigment, as the pigment will naturally begin to fade. A top-up treatment can be booked in from 6-12 months to keep your results looking fresh.

Is It Painful?

We all have different levels of pain tolerance, however, lip blushing is described as feeling like more of a ‘scratching’ than the pain associated with traditional tattooing.

Numbing pain can be provided to help lessen the discomfort. Remember to relax, if you are tense your pain tolerance will be lower, lay back, close your eyes and allow your artist to create your new perfect lips!

What About If I’ve Had Lip Filler?

Lip blushing can be a great treatment to have alongside lip fillers, as it can help accentuate the shape and fullness created by the filler!

However check with your artist how soon after lip filler you can have the lip blushing done, as there is downtime required before going ahead with the treatment.

This treatment may not also be suitable for those who have a lot of filler, due to difficulties with the colour taking, however, this again can be assessed at the consultation level.
